AAVMC
The American Association of Veterinary Medical Colleges represents the global academic veterinary medical community. The members of the AAVMC promote and protect the health and wellbeing of people, animals, and the environment by advancing the veterinary medical profession and preparing new generations of veterinarians to meet the evolving needs of a changing world.
CIVME Grant Program
The Council on International Veterinary Medical Education (CIVME) is an initiative of the American Association of Veterinary Medical Colleges (AAVMC), which is keen to promote and share best practices in veterinary medical education around the world.
The council’s grant program will provide a means for:
- Communication and collaboration that advances veterinary medical education around the world
- Collaboration among educational researchers
- Dissemination of innovations and other educational advances, to magnify the impact of projects by outreach to educators and their respective organizations
The CIVME Grant Program includes two grants:
The MSD CIVME Antimicrobial Stewardship Grant and the CIVME Research Grant, which has two categories (Educational Research Projects and Educational Exchange Projects).
The project budgets for all grants should not exceed $10,000 and are limited for a period of max. 24 months. Due to the size of the CIVME grants, indirect project costs are not considered. Preference will be given to applications that are collaborative efforts between institutions and across regions.

CIVME is grateful for the continued sponsorship of MSD Animal Health in supporting the CIVME MSD Antimicrobial Stewardship Grant!
AAVMC Dr. Catherine A. Knupp Scholarship
The
AAVMC Dr. Catherine A. Knupp Scholarship will be named for Dr. Cathy A. Knupp DVM, MS, who led the Zoetis Veterinary Medical Research and Development organization for many years. This scholarship will serve to commemorate Dr. Knupp’s many contributions to scientific innovation as a veterinary scientist and leader in human and animal health research and development. There is a critical need for additional veterinary scientists to enter the workforce, and student debt is a key factor limiting the pursuit and retention of veterinary scientists. A $50,000 scholarship will be awarded annually to a veterinary student who aspires to pursue an advanced degree in basic or veterinary clinical research fields of study. This will provide a substantial incentive to talented individuals who may not otherwise pursue this important career path.
Eligibility and Criteria
Applicants must be enrolled or formally accepted to a combined veterinary professional degree and PhD program at an AAVMC member institution in the United States or an equivalent research focused degree program at an international AAVMC member institution. Applicants who have secured funding and/or tuition support for the PhD and/or DVM portion of their program are welcome to apply, however please be advised that financial need is a component of the scholarship selection process. Students who are enrolled in a non-PhD combined degree program are not eligible at this time. This program is not designed to fully support a PhD research program. The primary intent of this scholarship is to provide debt relief for qualified dual degree PhD/DVM students and this scholarship is not not intended to replace institutional and other forms of financial support for existing programs.
International applications who are enrolled in equivalent combined veterinary professional and research degree programs and whose program is housed at an
AAVMC member institution are eligible. Please use the “Other” indicator to describe your program details.
